Dragonfly Izakaya and Fish Market – Shōchū Tasting

Dragonfly Izakaya and Fish Market is hosting a Shōchū Tasting.

Stronger than wine and Sake, but not quite up to the kick of Whisky, Shōchū is a traditional Japanese distilled spirit made from grains and vegetables. (In Japan, it’s actually more popular than sake!)

Dragonfly Izakaya and Fish Market in Doral is hosting a tasting on Sunday, June 25, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.. You will taste six different Shōchūs, explore their brewing process and experience their flavor profiles. Each flight will be artfully paired with something special from Chef Masa and his team.

Overtown Music & Arts Festival is Back

Overtown Music & Arts Festival (OMAF) returns once again! The annual street festival will take place Saturday, July 15, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Miami’s Overtown Business and Entertainment District. The festival will include live performances by multi-platinum selling talent including 5x Grammy Award winning artist Cee Lo Green, known for his hits including “Crazy” and “Forget You.” Cee Lo will be joined by Grammy nominated songstress Keyshia Cole as well as Tito Puente Jr., Inner Circle, RL of famed group Next whose hit songs include “Wifey”, “Butta Love” and “Too Close,” and additional talent to be announced.

Attracting some of the world’s top contemporary artists, OMAF has entertained a growing and enthusiastic audience that reached near 10,000 nation-wide festival goers last year and consists of a main stage featuring top musical acts and local Overtown businesses and vendors who will be on hand showcasing artwork, ethnic cuisine, food trucks, unique crafts, jewelry, clothing, and more.


Performing live art installations by artists including Alejandro Guzman and Alfrensa Moosa allow them to engage in conversation with festival goers.

Festival goers will play judge and experience the bold favors in the festival’s first cook-off competition. Restaurants will compete for bragging rights and onlookers will be able to sample and cast their vote for the best BBQ.


Teens Exercising Extraordinary Success (T.E.E.S.) Youth Zone is presented by the Green Family Foundation and activities include DIY arts, mulitl-lingual sotry time tent, live cooking demonstrations and music for children.


Taste of the Nation is Back!

Gearing up for its 29th year, South Florida’s Taste of the Nation for No Kid Hungry – the region’s premier culinary benefit featuring top chefs from Miami-Dade and Broward counties – will showcase more than 60 of the hottest restaurants from Dade and Broward counties, top chefs, sommeliers and mixologists and an impressive array of auction items. On Friday, May 12, 2017 from 7 p.m. (6 p.m. VIP PLUS ticket holders) to 10 p.m., the annual event returns to Wynwood at Soho Studios.

The soirée continues with an exclusive after party for VIP ticket holders and chef participants at the vibrant restaurant and gallery R House from 10:30 p.m. to midnight. While dishes will differ with bountiful savory and sweet options, one thing will remain the same: the evening’s goal to raise money for No Kid Hungry’s work to end childhood hunger in America.

Event hosts, radio personality Nick Pena of Y100 and CBS4’s EMMY Award-winning reporter Lisa Petrillo join new Chef Chairman Timon Balloo for South Florida’s much anticipated annual tasting event. Joining the team are over 60 of South Florida’s best food and drink destinations, including Area 31, Artisan Beach House, Beaker & Gray, Bird & Bone, EDGE Steak & Bar, Glass & Vine, KYU, MC Kitchen, Olla Miami, Pinch Kitchen, SUGARCANE Raw Bar Grill, The Dutch Miami, Whisk Gourmet and Zest.

In addition to tasty bites and libations, Taste of the Nation 2017 will feature a curated silent auction with one-of-a-kind packages, an Instant Wine Cellar – unlock the mystery door and win over $2,000 worth of wine, interactive elements such as a Citi lounge area for guests to relax and enjoy savory bites, and an “Urban Beer Garden” – curated by Events on the Loose – featuring a selection of South Florida’s iconic local brews from Biscayne Bay Brewing Company, Concrete Beach Brewery, J. Wakefield Brewing, MIA Beer Company, The Tank Brewing and Wynwood Brewing.

New to this year’s festivities will be the first ever Taste of the Nation Speakeasy presented by Breakthru Beverage Group featuring mixologists from Alter, Beaker & Gray,Better Days, Bitter Truth, Repour Bar and Wynwood Diner. Each will be paired with a spirit and will serve a specialty cocktail of their creation all night long.

In support of No Kid Hungry, The Strumbellas will perform a special acoustic set during the event, presented by Citi. The alt-rock chart topping band who recently won a JUNO Award for Single of the Year at home in Canada, played on TBS’ Conan and received the award for Best New Rock/Alternative Rock Artist by iHeartRadio Music, will headline a month-long tour this fall.

The party will continue just down the street at R House where Chef/Owner Rocco Carulli will team up with Big Easy WineBar & Grill and Elia Gourmet to treat guests to tasty bites and pours from Scott Conant’s newest pop-up SORSO by Scott Conant along with beer provided exclusively by Estrella Damm. Freebee will be offering complimentary rides all night long for guests and will be stationed outside of Soho Studios as well as R House.

Baru Latin Bar
Get ready for a real Latin fiesta hosted by all Baru Latin Bar locations for Cinco de Mayo! Baru will be opening at their usual time, 4pm, on Friday, March 5th and will be decked out in Cinco de Mayo decor. Drink specials include $25 buckets of Dos Equis and Tecate, $8 Patron Reposado (Patron that has been aged in new and used barrels for at least two months to create a smooth and clean taste with a hint of oak flavor) Margaritas, and $5 tequila shots. It’s not a Cinco de Mayo party without the Mariachis, so Baru will have the Latin group performing at all Baru locations, Kendall, Doral and Brickell.

La Cueva
It’s time to start prepping your alcohol tolerance for Cinco de Mayo at La Cueva! Celebrate the Mexican holiday at Brickell’s one and only Mexican cave for two hours of free tequila shots from 10pm to 12am! Holding dozens of tequila and mescal brands, La Cueva also specializes in creating the most flavorful tequila/mezcal cocktails, making it the perfect spot to celebrate this Mexican holiday. Coyo Taco’s Wynwood location is hosting its Third Annual Cinco de Mayo Block Party on Friday, May 5th with live mariachi bands, DJs and live luchador matches from 4pm to 1am followed by after hour festivities in the lounge till 3am. In addition to non-stop entertainment, Miami’s favorite taqueria will be offering specials such as $5 margaritas and $5 tacos. Tickets to this fiesta start at $15!

Lolo’s Surf Cantina
Lolo’s Surf Cantina invites you to join them for Cinco de Mayo on Friday, May 5th, for an all-day authentic Mexican fiesta that you can enjoy with friends or family – stop by for drinks after lunch, during happy hour or for a nightcap! Miami Beach’s newest Baja-inspired eatery will be celebrating with their margaritas de la casa, palomas, Mexican mules and sangrias and complimentary margarita samples, courtesy of Lunazul Tequila. Beach Bar at Newport Pier
Beach Bar at Newport Pier, Miami Dade’s only pier restaurant, is pouring Casa Noble shooters with Corona for $12 and half-priced Dos Equis lagers all night on Cinco de Mayo. Enjoy unobstructed views of the Atlantic Ocean while sipping on everyone’s favorite party spirit.

Quarterdeck is celebrating Cinco de Mayo all week long starting Monday, May 1st through Friday, May 5th. They will offer strawberry-infused tequila made in house with fresh strawberries, 100% Blue Agave Sauza Tequila and a house made simple syrup. The process takes a full week to complete and can be served as a shot, on the rocks or a Quarterdeck favorite – a margarita. Cocktails with the infused tequila are $10. They will also be serving Tequila Lime Chicken Wings ($11.99). The wings are marinated in tequila, fresh lime juice, blue agave nectar, assorted salts and pepper, then deep fried.


Verde x La Mar Collaborative Dinner at PAMM

Together with Chef’s Kaytlin Dangaran of Verde & Diego Oka of La Mar by Gaston Acurio, Verde will be hosting this dinner in honor of the opening of “Toba Khedoori” at PAMM.

The two chefs have drawn inspiration from the works of Toba Khedoori to prepare a culinary tasting for this special occasion. Starting at 7 p.m., guests will enjoy passed canapés followed by a four -course meal with wine pairings.

The grand finale to SOBEWFF, it’s Ramen Late Night at Pubbelly Sushi, Miami Beach. Hosted by Chef Jose Mendin, Chef Richie Nakano formerly of Hapa Ramen, will be cooking alongside the Miami chef creating 2 very tasty Ramen dishes. And, making a very special musical appearance and his debut act at the venue, is DJ Terry Cloth.

Saturday, February 25th

Oh Baby I Like It Raw – Izzy’s Fish & Oyster – 10p
Come throw down with Jamie DeRosa on Saturday, February 25 at Izzy’s Fish & Oyster’s raw bar for their second edition of “Oh Baby I Like It Raw” guest chef series. The fun starts at 10 pm and the two guest chefs on deck will be Boston favorites, Jamie Bissonnette and Ken Oringer of The Little Donkey. The Bostonians, Jamie B. and Ken, will be putting their spin on Scallop Crudo and Tuna Tataki. Jamie plans to keep it tropical with his Florida Citrus and White Soy Ponzu inspired dressed oyster.

VeritageMiami Happens This Week

UPDATE October 5, 2016: With Miami-Dade under a tropical storm watch and back in the “cone of concern,” our VeritageMiami leadership has decided to postpone ALL VeritageMiami events, including the Interactive Dinner on Fridayand Auction & Bubbly Brunch on Sunday, to the spring. We feel that this is the best course of action, again, out of an abundance of caution and due to the uncertainty of Hurricane Matthew. We will be in touch soon with new dates for VeritageMiami in the spring of 2017. All tickets and sponsorship benefits will be honored then. In addition, United Way is Miami-Dade County’s Office of Emergency Management’s official volunteer and donations arm following a disaster, and we need to turn our attention towards those efforts.

  • Interactive Dinner at the JW Marriott Marquis Miami on October 7 – considered one of the year’s most unique culinary experiences – guests will team up and cook a three-course meal under the tutelage of Bravo’s “Top Chef” season 13 winner, Jeremy Ford, who also serves as the chef de cuisine at The Miami Beach EDITION’S Matador Room by Jean-Georges Vongerichten. Johnson & Wales University students will serve as sous chefs, helping guests at each table, and the dinner is accompanied by Best in Glass gold and silver medal wines, which were previously selected by some of South Florida’s top sommeliers. Tickets are $500 per person; $4,000 per table of eight.
  • Auction & Bubbly Brunch at the Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne, on Sunday, October 9 – VeritageMiami’s brand new event, features a Perrier Jouët Champagne Reception, followed by a delicious family-style southern brunch, prepared by John Kunkel and his 50 Eggs Inc. team of James Beard-nominated and award-winning restaurants – Yardbird Southern Table and Bar, Swine Southern Table and Bar and the newly opened Spring Chicken. Unique bourbon cocktails will emphasize the southern heritage of the dishes being served, and one-of-a-kind experiences will be auctioned off. Celebrate Oktoberfest With Miami Smokers at the Pawn Broker

Everyone is celebrating Oktoberfest! You can celebrate the best way we know how to. Celebrate with Miami Smokers and the Pubbelly Boys at Pawn Broker in Downtown Miami. The fun happens on Thursday, September 29th from 8-11pm.

Here’s what you could feast on:

  • Beer Pork Brat served with German potato salad; house made sauerkraut, beer mustard, caramelized onions
  • The Floridian Sausage served with German potato salad; orange segments, pickled peppers, guacamole puree

The Dutch’s 5th Annual Summer BBQ’s

For the 5th year in a row, The Dutch is hosting their annual summer BBQ’s.

Every Wednesday night in July, Chef de Cuisine Adonay Tafur will team up with a rotating roster of guest chefs from the best restaurants in Miami to craft a specially-themed BBQ feast served family-style, also featuring sweet summer treats by The Dutch’s critically-acclaimed Pastry Chef Josh Gripper. Special guests chefs include Mike Pirolo of Macchialina, Xavier Torres of Drunken Dragon and Steve Santana of Taquiza, among many more. In addition to refreshing bourbon libations, The Dutch will also partner with local breweries to highlight several limited small batch brews perfect for the summer BBQ season.

Tickets to the weekly BBQ series are $40 per person, excluding tax and service charges. Space is limited, and advanced purchase is recommended. Walk-in guests are also welcome.
